Tell us what the bike is doing and we can usually tell you what it is before it goes in the stand. Tap a symptom.

Likely cause

Spoke tension has gone uneven, usually after a kerb hop or a year of patched-up roads. The rim itself is often still straight; the spokes holding it in the middle are no longer pulling evenly against each other.

What we do

The wheel goes into the truing stand and every spoke is checked, by ear and by gauge, then brought back to even tension. Lateral wobble and radial hop are both corrected, and the dish is re-centred so the wheel sits square in the frame. If a spoke has already pulled through its nipple it gets replaced first, because truing around a failing spoke only buys a few weeks.

Likely cause

Surface rust, and quite often more than surface. Singapore sits above 80% humidity most of the year, so a chain put away damp will bloom overnight. What matters is not the orange you can see but whether the rust has reached the rollers and the pins inside.

What we do

The chain comes off and goes on a wear gauge before anything else. Under 0.75% stretch it can be degreased, dried properly and re-lubed with a wet lube that survives the weather here. Past that it is replaced, and we check the cassette at the same time, because a stretched chain quietly files down the cogs and a new chain on worn cogs will skip.

Likely cause

Water sitting in the battery contacts or a controller connector. The pins corrode, resistance climbs, and the system drops out under load rather than at rest. That is exactly why it behaves itself the moment you switch it on in the shop.

What we do

Battery off, contacts inspected and cleaned back to bare metal, connectors dried and protected with dielectric grease, and the loom checked where it flexes at the head tube. Then it gets load-tested rather than just switched on. If a cell group has genuinely dropped, we tell you it is the battery, and not something a clean-up will quietly hide for another month.

Likely cause

Glazed or contaminated pads. Discs pick up road film and any oil that gets near them; rim brakes pick up aluminium dust off the braking track. Wet weather brings both out, which is why it always sounds worst the morning after.

What we do

Pads are deglazed or replaced, rotors cleaned with isopropyl only, and the caliper re-centred so both pads meet the rotor at the same time. We bed the brakes in before you leave rather than letting you do it in traffic. On rim brakes we also check the braking surface for wear, because a dished rim will squeal whatever pads you put on it, and a worn-through rim wall is a safety job, not a noise job.

Likely cause

The indexing has drifted. Cables stretch and outer housing settles over the first few hundred kilometres of a new bike, so a shop-fresh bike will always need a second set-up. A knocked derailleur hanger, from a fall or from the bike going over in a rack, does the same thing permanently.

What we do

Hanger alignment is checked first, with a gauge, because indexing a bent hanger is wasted work and it will come back. Then limit screws, cable tension and the barrel adjuster are set through the whole block, under load, not just spinning freely in the stand. If the cable is frayed inside the housing it gets replaced rather than adjusted around.

Likely cause

It has seized. Bikes parked on open corridors and void decks take rain sideways, water collects at the seat tube collar, and two different metals sitting wet together will corrode themselves solid over a few months.

What we do

Penetrating oil and time first, then leverage, then heat, in that order, because the fast way is how frames get cracked and how a repair turns into a new frame. Once it is out, the post and the seat tube are cleaned back and reassembled with the right grease, or carbon paste if the frame calls for it, so you are not back here next year with the same problem.

Walk-in repairs

Punctures, brakes, gears, cables, bottom brackets, headsets, and the bolt you have already rounded off trying to shift it yourself. Bring the bike, not a description of the bike. Most of it can be diagnosed on the spot, with you standing there watching it happen.

Wheel truing

Lateral and radial truing, spoke replacement, tension balancing and dish correction, done in the stand by hand. A wheel is a tensioned structure, not a part you swap. A wheel that is properly re-tensioned stays true; a wheel that is only pushed straight comes back.

E-bike servicing

Battery contact cleaning and load testing, controller and connector diagnostics, plus the brake and drivetrain work that an e-bike needs sooner than a normal bike. The extra weight and the extra speed go through the same pads and the same chain, and that is the half that wears out first.

Who fixes your bike

Danny. Nine years of it, and the shop is still one bench, one truing stand and one pair of hands. That is not a limitation we are dressing up. It is why the person who looks at your bike is the person who fixes it, and the person who tells you what it costs.

If it is a five minute job, you get told it is a five minute job. If the frame is not worth what the repair would cost, you get told that too, even though it is the answer that makes us less money that day.

Walk in

No booking, no form, no waiting for a callback. The bench is the queue.

It goes in the stand

With you standing next to it. You see what we see, at the same time we see it.

You get told what it needs

What is urgent, what can wait until next month, and what is honestly not worth doing.

It gets fixed

Small jobs while you wait where we can. Anything bigger, Danny messages you when it is ready.
